Combing Cal Water and Stakeholder Meeting Update Notes

With the storms this week and into the upcoming week, city is on high alert. There was a brief closure of PVDS yesterday. City advised all residents to sign up on the city website for emergency notifications.

Cal Water Meeting, 01-30-24

  • Cal Water hosted a meeting to introduce the new Engineering Team to the SRA, including a Board Representative and our local SRA Historian. Others at the meeting included Cal Water Administration and Engineering and Water Works, CW’s geotechnical and engineering subcontractor.
  • A review of a preliminary conceptual water piping plan was exhibited, and the Scope of their work was discussed, including Preliminary Engineering, Final Design and permitting work.
  • The anticipated work will include approximately 7,300 linear feet of new pipe, plus the PV South Service Road will be developed, with a neighborhood review during the Preliminary Stage.
  • The SRA Historian provided the CW & WW Team with valuable historical data, maps with overlay of current conditions.
  • SRA emphasized the point of keeping the community current on the planning of the new water piping on the West side of Schooner Drive

Stakeholders Meeting, 01-31-24

  • The City Council will have the landslide on its agenda next week. The City Staff Report for that meeting is available on the city website. Participation in the meeting instructions is on the City website for virtual participation or you can attend directly.
  • GPS survey data is in for October and January. There has been more acceleration of land movement compared to a comparable period last year. Movement is at a rate of 4 feet per year at the top and bottoms of the slide. A request was made of the City to have true emergency planning information for residents in the event of catastrophic failures of sewer or gas. The City is evaluating existing plans and will follow up on this.
  • Portuguese Bend landslide EIR plan is with the City for final review.
  • PVDS road repairs are ongoing as movement is increasing. Next round of repairs is planned soon.
  • Crack filling of roads in Seaview is ongoing. Request was made to extend the tarps at Dauntless and Exultant to cover the large fissure further West on Dauntless. The City will work to get this done.
  • SCE leaning poles. Awaiting final environmental clearance. Anticipating completion date of April. Same for Burma trails 40 poles that are now inactive. They need for communication companies to remove their equipment. That would be Cox and Crown Castle. The City will help to connect SCE to those companies.
  • Gas Company. There was gas leak in Narcissa a few days ago and a gas leak along Dauntless near Exultant also. Gas company began work quickly on these. Concerns raised by residents that gas lines had not been shut off. Crews had indicated that they could not when residents queried them. Gas company representative at stakeholders meeting clarified that the leaks were not large so crews did not shut off major lines as that would have affected many homes. They try to keep mains open unless there a major leak.
  • KCLAD continuing to keep drains unplugged near the coast. The new well is working. Water levels have not significantly changed compared to last week. Final plans for drainage of the low area adjacent to Seaview along PVDS are with city.
  • ACLAD new well sites are all prepped and ready for installation of pumps with electrical supply. Anticipating 6 new wells coming on line soon.
  • Cal Water will be walking Seaview with geologic design team on Thursday the 1st. They are in planning stages for pipe replacements along PVDS and in the Seaview neighborhood West of Schooner as the next stage of repairs/replacement. The rest of Seaview will be in line for replacement as part of the normal replacement cycles, but Seaview West of Schooner will be higher priority than other communities on the hill due to land moment in our area.
